Day 100! Weekly Weigh In results April 7, 2008

GREAT result today… totally fitting for my 100th day of being healthy!    I am very very very chuffed to report that I have broken through my first milestone of 74kg and have lost a total of 6.1kg (13.5 pounds).   I sat on 74kg for 2 days and then this morning it went today it went down to 73.9kg!   This is great news given my workouts haven’t been as intense (as I am having a break from running) and I only got 4 piggies on my exercise sticker chart.  My routine is totally up the whoop and there is a lot more booze temptation than normal because my family are here.

Plan for this week… exercise every day, even if it is just going for a walk or bike ride.   Keep trying to listen to my body before deciding to eat or drink.  Watch the alcohol consumption but do so without sacrificing some fun times with my siblings.

I am going to also take the training wheels off….  I am going to stop journaling my food intake online.  A bit scary because I really believe journaling the food has made a huge difference.  But internet access is going to be sporadic for the next month.   I will still do my weigh in on Mondays (or as close to Monday as I can) and review how the week went.  If the weight starts creeping back on I will readjust this plan very quickly!  

I am so proud of myself at how far I have come… I actually like to make healthy choices now and am able to listen to my body.   I still have a long way to go, but if I can continue the healthy eating this month while on holiday and maintain my new weight (or even better loose some more) I will be ok.    I can’t wait to be less than 70kg, honestly…. I spent my 20’s being overweight, life is short (especially if you have an unhealthy lifestyle) and I don’t want to waste time being unhealthy and lethargic.  My 30’s are going to be so much fun, I am going to be fit, thin and have lots of energy and confidence.  It’s going to be awesome.

I hope everyone is doing ok – I am sorry I haven’t had the time to read other’s blogs lately.   I have you all in my favourites so when I get some spare time I will definitely check in and see how you are going.

Days 97 - 99: A catch up! April 6, 2008

Ok… my big brother is here and my little brother is arriving tonight.   Im trying to finish off my work and well… I haven’t had a lot of time for blogging and its only going to get worse as I spend the next 4 weeks on HOLIDAY!!!  I really do want to maintain my healthy lifestyle so I will start recording my food/exercise in a notebook and will try to blog once a week. 

So… a catch up:
Day 97 (Fri 4th April) - worked from home, worked loooong hours.  CAn’t remember what I ate but I think it was the usual cereal and lots of toast! 

Day 98 (Sat 5th April) - had Soya and Cereal for breakfast., went to a blessing at my step mums shop and ate lunch there (rice and thai food).   I also had a bite of an orange cake and was pleased to report it wasn’t that good.  This is a cake from the 7/11 I used to eat A LOT of last year.  Its nice to taste some and go, ew…  not that great.   I love it how I am no longer eating for the sake of eating, but eating to nourish my body and for taste.
  
I had some beer.   Er.. ok…  I had a lot of beer.   Um.. not good, but it was a fun night just chilling with my brother.  We were up till 2.30am just chillin.   The beer situation is going to get more difficult in the next couple of weeks as the rest of the family arrive…  I think I will listen to my body and only dink beer when I want to drink beer (rather then when I think I should because everyone else is).  I will also make sure I stick to drinking water with meals.  

Day 99 (today, Sun 6th) – Toast for breakfast, had a banana smoothie, got a fresh OJ from the market (yum) and also had some Thai market food for lunch (fish, curry, rice and chicken).

Exercise over the last few days:  I went for a bike ride yesterday and I walked to the market (took us about 30-40mins).  Feeling the effects of the walk, so that is good.  I’ve earned a total of 4 piggie stickers.   I haven’t been running because of the ankle, the workouts haven’t been big workouts… but I got my bum off the couch and did something.   Pretty good I think!     I think if I keep up the walking and do exercise where I can I should be able to at least maintain my weight when I am on holiday.

 

Day 96: A piggie update and a photo of my office April 3, 2008

Feeling much better today.   The project is nearly finished (I just need to write the user guides and do some training) and my big brother arrives in Thailand today.   He is the first of 3 siblings to arrive for Songkran (Thai New Years)!  Yay…. I love Songkran and I cant wait to see my siblings.  :)    I have a couple more days of work to do but I am easing into holiday mode already (I started packing up today….  its nearly time to move on!).

Ok… Felicia at Life Happens suggested we take a photo of where we blog from.  I thought this was a GREAT idea so here we go.   I blog from my office at my Dads house in Thailand.  I have a great view of trees and I regularly see birds playing outside my window, occasionally I see giant Monitor Lizards (when it rains a lot).

Also… I forgot to post a picture of my 1st reward…. for getting 6 piggies in the 1st week of my piggie count I got to buy myself a very expensive lipstick.   I got a Dior Lipstick…..  its lovely….

Er… its only mid day….  I haven’t done any excersise (yet), I havent finished eating and I havent started spending….  so I will finish this journal entry tonight!  :)

Ok… the update:

Food:

  • breakfast - cereal and soy
  • snack - toast x2 (grr)
  • lunch - 2 bits of a garlic frensh stick (then I threw it away), followed by a bagel with herbal cheese spread
  • Snack - 1 beer and some jackfruit
  • Dinner - water (no beer), coconut shrimp spicy soup, green curry, friend shrimp cakes and rice.  YUM… prob not super healthy (the shrimp cakes), but YUM.   

Exercise - none.  I did walk a lot today but I dont think it counts as a piggie sticker.  

Water - average

$ spent - taxi to mall (150baht), garlic french stick (18baht), eyebrow wax (100baht), bagel for lunch (55baht), taxi to airport (200baht), taxi to home pro (220baht), tesco fruit, deoderant and fabric softner (114.5baht), taxi home (80 baht), taxi to dinner (100baht), dinner (480baht), taxi home (40baht).    TOTAL: 1557.5 baht ($63 NZD)

 

Day 95: A very sore and very grumpy Julia! April 2, 2008

I’ve had a really crappy day….  I woke up tired and grumpy and I am going to bed slightly less grumpy but VERY tired.   The ankle is sore, in fact my whole body is sore….  it was a really hard session with the PT yesterday (thankfully it was a rest day today). 

Oh well… tomorrow will be better  :)

I ate average to below average today…  er…  I was totally conscious about my eating,  I had control over it… so that is good.  I just didn’t make healthy choices.  There isn’t much in our kitchen that I want to eat (except toast and apples) and I couldn’t leave the house because I am too busy with work (its 9.15pm and I just logged off my work PC).  Excuses excuses I know…. Part of the healthy eating thing is learning to be organisesed even when you are under stress. 

The good news…. The development for my project is now 99% finished, Ive got 2 days of fun work (I am also doing my old job in NZ part time) and then I go on holiday!!!  Yipee!!!! 

  • Breakfast – cereal and soy
  • Snack – apple and the last of my dark chocolate (2 bits)
  • Lunch – toast x 2
  • Snack – toast x 2
  • Another snack – apple (I love apples)
  • Er… I found some chocolate covered pistachio nuts in the freezer and polished them off (about 8 chocolates)
  • Dinner – toast x1
  • Followed by ½ a pack of MMs (I asked dad to bring them home).

Right, better go to bed… I am so so so tired.

Day 94: And the verdict is… sprained ankle by overuse April 1, 2008

Went to the doctors today….   the verdict is I sprained my right ankle by overuse, it’s a bit swollen and a bit sore.   Er…  very important note for those following the Couch to 5k… stick to the times in the plan and make sure you get the rest in between.   My right ankle got a lot worse after my 12min run with no stops (I was supposed to do two 8 min runs) that I  followed by a pretty full on PT session.   Ooops.   

Its funny… the doctor balked when I said I had been teaching myself to run even though I have flat feet (do people with flat feet never run… I figured with my orthotics and a really good pair of shoes I would be fine!??!)   AND then his advice was that if I wanted to loose weight I should stop eating instead of doing exercise… odd advice from a doctor!      He was horrified to hear I am allergies to anti-inflammatories and asprin but still managed to prescribe 2 bags of pills that I will not be taking.  Oh, the joys of living in a foreign country.  

The doctor told me no exercise for 2 weeks and to my surprise this disappointed me a lot (I really want my 6 piggies this week).  When I questioned him some more he said cycling would be ok.  

I am going to see if I can jack up an appointment with my podiatrist/running doctor when I go home for my holiday.  Hopefully the NZ doctor can check my running style, the mechanics of my bod and give me some good ankle/knee exercises to prevent future injuries.

So…  the six little piggies….  Ive got 2 already.   I think I will have a 100% rest day tomorrow.  I will do some gentle yoga on Thursday and then see how the foot feels on Friday…. If its up to it I might either do some walking on the treadmill or a cycling class at the gym…. we will see…. maybe it will be Yoga week!  Ill just take it one day at a time.  

Exercise:  20 mins on the elliptical and a PT session.  I reckon I will hurt tomorrow!!!

Food: 

  • Breakfast – cereal and soy
  • Snack – apple and ½ mango and banana shake
  • Lunch – chicken salsa wrap and a little bread bun (yay for kiddie size food at the bakery)
  • Snack –  none
  • Dinner – sushi and salmon salad

Money Spent Today:  Ok this is a new bit of the blog when I detail what $ I spent…  a bit of a stretch for the ‘Healthy Lifestyle’ topic of this blog but I want to have more control over my spending as well as control over my eating.  Also…. I need to save A LOT of money in the next 6 months so I can do some travel before I settle somewhere (for a bit) in the next destination!

I spent quite a bit today… will note it down tomorrow (because my wallet is upstairs and I need to do some more work tonight).
